Peter & The Wolf, Carnival of the Animals

Peter & the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals – Symphonic fairytales by Prokofiev & Saint-Saëns & Beethoven’s 5th Symphony

An orchestral experience that will captivate the imagination! Don’t miss this special evening with the Hawke’s Bay Orchestra.

Young and old, all audiences love Prokofiev’s delightful adventure in music, which helps children identify different instruments of the orchestra with Peter and his animal friends.

Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals” features each animal in its own descriptive song, including the royal march of stately lions, hippity-hopping kangaroos, lumbering elephants, and a graceful swimming swan.

Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is an ingenious construction on the most famous four notes in Western music history: the short-short-short-long motif with which the Fifth Symphony begins. Beethoven would have said, “fate is knocking at the door”.
